This is my outfit from last weekend when Tenna came over for some sewing and Harry Potter movie watching.

I wanted to do something new with my hair, so I tried this do. I received this dress in the mail recently. It's Baby's Blooming Snow White print which I also have in pink. I was so happy when I found this dress, because it was in the colour that I originally wanted. :3

I've been doing some more shopping lately. I bought one of Baby's lucky packs :D It's my first lucky pack, yay. I figured it would be safe enough seeing as I liked all the colours available and the sizes were listed. The shipping price was insane and when I picked up the package on at the post office, I saw why. The box it came in was huge, at least twice as big as what would've been necessary. The lucky pack came in a pink tote bag, but haven't taken any photos of that, but here are the contents:

I was so thrilled when I opened the tote bag and saw that it was this colour that I had gotten. As I said earlier, I liked all three colours, but I was really hoping for this one. I love this tartan red with the white lace. It's reminds me of old school lolita and also one of Momoko's dresses in Kamikaze girls.

The fabric of the dress is so lovely, thick and comfortable, with lots of cute details like Baby's dresses usually have. How to know it's a lucky pack dress? There's no zipper, which I guess makes sense, as the manufacturing process would be more expensive then. But the whole back of the bodice is shirred, so there's no trouble putting on the dress. :)

I've just been at home today working on my stuff for next issue of Starlight Magazine. We have a "Nerdy Lolita" theme coming up, so I've been doing some Harry Potter stuff. And Tenna and I have also talked about doing a Supernatural/Lolita shoot on Sunday. Should be interesting, yes? ;)

One last thing: Teaparty shoes. I've always been fascinated by all the lovely colours they're made in and how when you see other Lolis' wardrobes some have a pair in each colour. They're pretty cute. I've been wanting to get some for a while, but I've been worried that they would be too Sweet for my wardrobe. But when I saw that Secret Shop only had a few pairs left in stock in my size, I couldn't resist getting them.

I wrote Clobba online to inquire when they would restock the other colours and if more colours would be made. They replied and said that they wouldn't restock for a really long time, maybe never for some colours. I don't know, it seems a little unrealistic that they should never make these shoes in the larger sizes again, nevertheless, I went and bought two pairs:

I'm looking forward for the weather to get warm enough to actually be able to wear these outside. It'll probably be a while ;)

I want to make a special post about the Christmas gift I received from Tenna, because it's so amazing. *__*

When I opened the box (the chest came later) I was in complete awe. It was full of cute bottles of dried flowers and plants, bath salts, beads, soap and glitter. Each bottle had a little handwritten label with a magical name on it (felix felicis and unicorn tears, guys ♥).

I spent with my family and it was a nice cozy evening ^^

I wore my Gryffindor dress, because it feels so christmassy, hehe, and the shoes I just bought recently from Miss Selfridge. I've been wanting a pair like that for so long, I love the straps and finally I found some. Well, I've been watching these for so long, waiting for them to go on sale, hehe. Unfortunately, while the fit is actually really good, they're extremely difficult to walk in. So I guess this pair will be reserved for photoshoots and occasions where there will be very little walking ;)

The 25thUsually I just spent this day hanging out at home, enjoying my presents, but Tenna had asked if we should do something that day, so we hung out and then went to the cinema to see Sherlock Holmes 2. It was really awesome :D
My brother had given me two tickets for a movie and popcorn the day before, so we used those and then there was a mix up with the system and all reservations had been cancelled. Some people became really frustrated, so after the movie, the staff handed out one free ticket for each person. Yay, hehe. But yeah, the movie was really good and I just love Robert <3

Since my last update, I've been super busy finishing things for my two shoots for Starlight Magazine. The latest issue was just released on the 14h and here is an excerpt of the shoot I did:

I was busy sewing for these two shoots. I made the soldier girl's skirt, the cape and maiden dress.

I couldn't find a suitable blouse, so I improvised by adding sleeves to the jumperskirt.

So I had last week off from work and had a bunch of plans of things I wanted to get done. But of course I had to come down with the flu halfway through the week. Just great. So I didn't get to finish all of my sewing projects which is now stressing me out. A lot. So yeah.
But I did go to a concert before I got ill. I saw Within Temptation for the second time. They were just as amazing as last time I saw them in 2007. They just have so much energy, passion and gratitude. It's beautiful to watch. Sharon pretty much glows on stage. *__*

Triggerfinger was the support act and they rocked too. My friend and I met two of the guys afterwards and got their autographs. Yay :D So it was a super awesome evening altogether and it's been so long since I've been to a decent rock concert, haha. I really missed it. You know those times when the drums and the bass are so loud it feels as if your heartbeat has been replaced by them. That is probably what I love most about concerts =D

Today Tenna and I met up to do a little location scouting for two shoots we're doing for the next issue of Starlight. We pretty much walked all over Copenhagen, so my feet are more than a bit sore now. I don't want to reveal too much about what we're planning, but I'm very excited about both shoots. They're for the December issue of Starlight and they're based on two classic Christmas fairy tales.

Speaking of Starlight Magazine, the 5th issue came out a couple of weeks ago. Read it here.

It's been so long since I've updated this blog, I know. It's also been a really long time, since I wore my frills more than just a casual work outfit. So when I had the opportunity today, I took forever picking out my outfit and basically just hugging all of my dresses. ;)

I originally planned to wear my Red Rid(d)ing Hood jsk from Baby, but I have to be honest with myself, if fits me terribly, so I took it off again. It makes me so sad, because I absolutely love that dress. It's so gorgeous and it pains me that I don't wear it much. I think I need to consider selling it, even though I hate the thought. I've decided to sell my Atelier Pierrot skirt that I bought at the Lolitaloppis in May. It doesn't fit either and I don't dare to try to alter it. So that one's definitely up for grabs.

I have this upcoming week off from work. Yay. I needed a break so badly, especially before all the Christmas madness starts for real. I'm probably going to spend most of my vacation sewing. Yup. I have to sew so much for the Christmas shoots. A skirt, a dress, a cape and then I have to make some wings. It's going to be busy, that's for sure ^^

Oh yeah, I wrote guide to Casual Lolita for the latest issue of Starlight. I'd be happy to translate it, if anyone are interested. Then I'll post it here on the blog.

Starlight Magazine #4

A couple of weeks ago the issue #4 of Starlight Magazine came out. I did two photoshoots for this issue and you can view all the images, even the ones I didn't choose for the magazine, on my photoblog: Flights of Fancy.

I also contributed by doing a bunch of articles and while it took forever to get it all done, I really enjoyed it. It was fun setting everything up and making patterns and such.

Since my last update, many things have happened, which I guess is kind of a given, as it's been forever since my last update. Anyway, in May I journeyed to Cardiff to visit a friend of mine. We did several photoshoots there, some of which are featured in the June edition of Starlight Magazine.

There are more photos from the castle shoot to see at my photo blog. I'm kind of slow-mo with the editing, so the two other shoots aren't up yet, but will be soon. Hopefully.

I'm also very excited to say that I will have two photoshoots featured in the next issue. One of them is a huge photo series with four models. I spent so much time on preparing for that shoot, it's ridiculous. I had to sew most of the outfits, but I'm very pleased with the outcome, so I can't wait to show you the photos. The next issue of Starlight will be released on Monday the 8th and we've taken quite a bit step forward this time in terms of layout and content, if I may say so myself, hehe. :3

For the premiere of the last Harry Potter movie, Tenna and I spent the weekend before sewing dresses. I made this deep red velvet dress with a black chiffon bustle, and Tenna made a green velveteen dress. Brilliant as she is, Tenna then painted our respective house crests onto the dresses. Mine in gold paint and hers in silver. It looks awesome, just saying.

How we looked for the premiere. I have to say that I am so happy with the work we put into these dresses. It felt really amazing to honour the end of an era like this. I'm a huge HP fan, so it meant a lot to me. And yes, I needed a bucket for my creys.

We barely got to set foot in the cinema, when a tv reporter came up to us and asked for an interview. We nervously agreed. It was quite a long interview and he asked lots of questions. Lol, he opened with "Aren't you too old to be watching Harry Potter". Unfortunately, I can't show you the final clip. I haven't even seen it myself. Both Tenna and I have tried writing the tv station, but they were no help at all, which is a shame. I really wanted to see it :(

Then on the 20th of July Tenna and I went to a meetup with the Danish forum for Japanese Fashion. This was my first meetup actually, but I already knew a couple of people there, so it wasn't as daunting as one could've thought. We just had a nice picnic in the park and the we played charades.

We spent the rest of the evening chilling and then the next day, after a quick trip downtown, Tenna and I started sewing. I started making a black chiffon dress. I've been needing just a basic black dress for so long. I finished it late in the evening after Tenna went home.

Lolitaloppis 2011

So Tenna and I got on the train early, and I mean really early, Sunday morning to get to the Lolitaloppis in Stockholm. The train ride was long, so we tried to get some extra sleep. Finally, we were in Stockholm, now we only had to find the right street and even though we'd printed out a map, it proved to be a bit difficult, because the map wasn't detailed enough.

When we got to Tokyo Stop, naturally, there was a line. It actually wasn't as long as I'd expected, but it still took forever for us to get in. I think it was around 1pm or so when we got in line and it was 4pm when we got out of Tokyo Stop after having spent about 15 or 20 minutes inside. So yeah, it took a while. -__-
I don't actually mind waiting in line for events, but we hadn't eaten since 9am (when we ate 'lunch' on the train, lol), so we were very hungry and it was really cold. Obviously, we didn't wear the most practical shoes, but still. Lastly, the two girls waiting infront of us were really, really annoying. Like. I can't even. Mhm.

Inside Tokyo Stop it was super crowded which is to be expected when you shove a bunch of frill-butts into two tiny rooms, but it was a bit disappointing, because it didn't leave that much room for taking photos. I got a few that are for Starlight Magazine, but I would have liked more.

Tokyo Stop were having a sale on their Lolita items. They were marked down by 40 % which sounds like a good deal, except their original price was almost double the retail price. So even with the mark down it was a bit more expensive than were you to buy from Japan. It was such a shame, because they had Meta's Blooming Garden JSK in the colour and the design that I wanted, but with the mark down it cost 200SEK more than what I'd brought.

It was then that I started to feel a bit panicked, lol, having come all this way and waited in line for so long and then I couldn't find something to buy? Then I saw this burgundy skirt hanging behind some other dresses at one girl's stand and it turned out to be this skirt:

It's the Romeo and Juliet print and it is so luxurious! The fabrics and the design - it's all so beautiful *__*

So I bought it, even though it's too small for me, but it came with waist ties, so I can let it out a bit ^^

Tenna bought the long and dusty mint version of IWs Christina JSK (the one I have in plum/short) so now we can twin. And it is just so gorgeous in that colour <3

I also bought this cute tote bag and a necklace.

Afterwards when we'd gotten something to eat (thank you 7eleven!), we went into one of the many H&Ms. I bought a hat like the one Tenna modified and wore for the day. It's sold out in most stores around here, so that was neat, hehe.

Next we took our outfit shots by a church and then we headed back to the train station.

The ride back home seemed longer than out, but we had fun with listening to the music from A Very Potter Musical and the audio book of the Philosopher's Stone. We had to switch trains in Lund and on the train to Copenhagen, we entered the overly tired hyper mode, lol. It was a lot of fun, though I felt a bit bad for the other few passengers. Tenna showed me her troll face:

Altogether it was a good trip, but a really long day. It was fun, but I feel it cost a bit too much to get there compared to how it was. If I were to do it again, I would definitely do it differently, like spend a weekend in Stockholm and get a chance to see some of the beautiful things there too.

My outfit from last Friday:

I tried doing a fishbone braid for the first time (succesfully anyway). Then I wore that off white shirt which is made from this soft light weight cotton with dot embroidery. I really wanted something comfortable and fit for the country, since I went to my parents' summer cottage and just felt like going for a walk and taking some photos. It was a very summery day ^^

On Saturday I met up with Tenna at the Central Station in Copenhagen to buy our train tickets to Stockholm for the Lolitaloppis :D

Then we went back to my place and spent the day sewing while watching Supernatural. Gooood times =D

There is this blue-ish green in the embroidery, so I thought I'd try to coordinate it with this bolero.

I spent the day sewing a black dress. It turned out all right, but I still need to add a collar and some cuffs and then take it in a bit...somehow in the back. So no pictures yet.

But yeah, Tenna and I are going to the Lolitaloppis on Sunday. We have to get up ridiculously early to catch our first train, but hopefully it'll be worth it. I'm definitely looking forward to it :D

Photoshoots & new skirts

First off I want to share the photos I did for Starlight Magazine. On my photography blog, you can view both the Red Riding Hood shoot I did with Emilie, Stine and Tenna - and also a couple of Sleeping Beauty selfportraits.

Last Sunday, Tenna and I had wonderful day of sewing and watching Supernatural. Here's her entry on about that day.

Here's what I wore:

I recently bought this skirt off mbok.jp. It's probably my favourite print that Meta has ever done.

While Tenna was busy sewing her dress and turning a cardigan into an awesome bolero, I was working on this chiffon skirt. Initially, I wanted a soft cream coloured chiffon fabric, but I found the colour in the fabric store to be too bright, then I saw this beautiful powder coloured chiffon with dot embroidery on a mannequin and fell in love.

I'm travelling to Wales in May and one of the photoshoots I'm go to do there is going to be inspired by nymphs. So I wanted some soft and flowy, but also, I really wanted to make something that I would be able to wear afterwards - preferably with lolita.

So I based my design on this skirt by Victorian Maiden:

I was probably only about half-way done with my skirt by the end of the day. The dotted chiffon was extremely tricky to work with and the serger seemed to really want to test my patience. I found the 'normal' chiffon that I used for the lining easier to work with. Anyway, but I finished the rest of the skirt this week and here is the result:

Tenna and I have another date with the sewing machine tomorrow, where I'm to going try my hand at making a dress. Should be interesting :)

Sorry, I’ve been neglecting this blog so much lately, I feel kind of bad, especially because I’ve actually had plenty of loli related times lately.

I had those two weeks off from work and I basically spent my time relaxing, sewing and taking photos. I made these two skirts and a matching headbow for one of them. I am planning to make one for the green skirt too. When I saw these two colours of this fabric, I just couldn’t resist buying it. I was planning to use these two at work, but I don’t know, I wore the blue one the other day and it just gets too dirty.

I got some red fabric too and I made cape for a photoshoot, I did a few weeks ago. I don’t have any photos of it to show you yet, because the photos are for the Danish online magazine for Lolitas which isn't released beofre April 11th.

I also bought some light dusty blue chiffon fabric for a JSK, but I haven’t started sewing that one yet.

Tenna invited me to a chocolate festival a few weeks ago and it was quite delicious. She owns Bodyline’s Chocolate Biscuit print in two colourways, so I borrowed her blue skirt, so we could twin this very event appropriate print :D

We met up with Tenna’s friend Keon there, so for once we had someone to take a photo with the both of us in it.

The moment we got inside and took off our coats, we were jumped by two event girls in hot pink poofy dresses, who complimented our outfits and gave us free chocolate! See?! Lolita pays off sometimes :D

We stayed for a while – until all of our free chocolate ‘coins’ (which came with the ticket) were used up and we were getting a bit nauseous from too much of a good thing which included chocolate and macarons :D

Afterwards we went to Baresso to recover :D A wonderful way to spend half a Sunday ^__^

This is my newest purchase: Baby’s Alice’s Portrait JSK in black. I love this print combined with the stripes and I’ve been searching for it for quite some time now. The pink and blue versions are all over the place, but I wanted the black or the red one. Finally I found it on mbok.jp and I really love this place. It gave me the Sleeping Beauty JSK, this one and Meta’s Swan lake skirt is one its way to me.

The photoshoot I mentioned before is themed ‘Fairy tales’ and I had three of my friends and colleagues model for me. I’ll save most of the talk of this shoot for my photoblog, I just want to share this photo Tenna took while I was setting up:

I just want to say that is was a wonderful day, I had the pleasure of looking at three beautiful fairy tale characters and idyllic surroundings all day. More days should be like that ♥

Lastly, I want to share my outfit from last Saturday. I wanted to take some photos to submit to the magazine, but I’m too far from satisfied with the result, so I’ll just share one here and maybe more later at my other blog.

Dress from Retroscope Fashions. This was actually the first ever Lolita dress I bought three years ago and this is the first time I’ve really worn it. For real. It’s mid-calf length and a size too big, so I never liked it. But I gotta say, after this shoot, I’m loving this so much, haha. During this shoot which lasted for about thirty minutes, I experienced cloudy and sunny weather, and snow. It was ridiculous! Hehe..

The weather was really lovely yesterday, so when I was tidying up my closet and came across this skirt which I rarely wear, I decided to put together this outfit and go outside to take some photos. I want to get into the habit of taking outfit shots outside, I like how it brings so much to the picture.

I haven't had very much time for Lolita since my last update and I've only managed to get one outfit shot, despite wearing Lolita several times - and the one I got is a lousy mirror picture. But I guess it's better than no picture at all.
I met up with a friend of mine who I hadn't seen in a long time. We went out for lunch and then to the cinema and watch Due Date.

I've only worn this dress twice now, despite having it for a long time. I was considering selling it, because it doesn't really fit me right, but I don't know - I just like the print a lot. It's from Rose Melody by the way.

Besides being busy with work, I've also been spending more time on photography and updating more over on my blog about that: Flights of Fancy.
Soon I'm going on vacation from work for two weeks, so I should have time for both photography and Lolita when that time comes.

Wear something you rarely wear

Today I went over to a friend's place to hang out. I wanted to wear something from my closet that I rarely use. I actually really like this dress, I just haven't used it much, because it fits me almost like an empire-waisted dress, which really isn't flattering for my figure, but then I thought of wearing this belt with it and I think it looks much better.

Miss Caro-chan just blogged about bangless Lolitas, which was kind of funny, because these past couples of weeks I've been thinking a lot about bangs. I've been growing my bangs out for the past year and now I'm starting to think about getting them back and I'm really on the fence here. On one hand, I like the more mature look of being bangless and it's easier to manage on a daily basis. But I really like how bangs look with most of the usual hair accessories in Lolita. For now, I've settled with dying the roots of my hair a dark brown to match the ends better. So I'll continue to think about the bangs.

Someone posted a secret about me on the J-fashion.dk (Danish Lolita forum), well, it was really more of a valentine and it made me really happy. It read: "J-fashion kan være stolt af dig. Du er en fantastisk Lolita og så sød og venlig" which translates to "J-fashion can be proud of you. You're fantastic Lolita and so sweet and friendly".
Thank you so much to whoever made it. It meant a lot to me :3

I'm not that active on the board, so I was a little surprised to get a secret/valentine. I only post an outfit shot and a comment once in a while.
I used to be super active on this other forum (not Lolita related) years ago and it was a lot of fun, but in the end there was just too much drama and when I left, I guess I just decided not to get too involved in online life again. So basically I'm just a big lurker ;)
But now there's talk of starting a new online magazine about Lolita. We used to have one that ran for three issues a few years back, I think.
I've volunteered as a photographer already as I really want to get more experience as one and would love to do some Lolita photoshoots. I don't know what's to become of that, though, the magazine is only in the very early stages at this moment.
But regardless, I'm still interested in hearing from all of y'all Danish Lolitas out there if you want to do a photoshoot some time. If you want to see what I've done before, you can check out my flickr.

The annual Lolita flea market in Sweden is on the 1st of May and I really want to go. Girl ever after have already talked about going and now the date is set, so I hope everything works out and we'll be able to go.

On another note, New Year came around (did you notice?) and normally I don't give much for New Year's resolutions, but I did set some goals for myself this year.
Personally, I have to find a place to do an internship in Photography, so I can get into the Photography programme. This has to happen.
Then I would also like to find an apartment for myself. It's about time and my fingers are itching to decorate a whole apartment, haha.
Those are my two main goals. Then there are the smaller ones, like doing more photoshoots and spending more time doing productive things in compared to watching too many movies and tv-shows.

In relation to Lolita and this blog, I'd like to update more often and do something more than just outfit posts. So I'll have to work on that :)

1. Perpetuate forever: Literary/Fairy tale prints. Can’t get enough of them. Seriously.

2. Kill off immediately: Deco-loli. Just no.

3. Raise like a zombie: Natural hair over wigs. For all styles. This whole wig-craze is annoying. I’d much rather see what people can do with their own hair. I know it can be more challenging to get just right, but I think it looks much more flattering in most cases.

4. Dance on the grave of: Lace topped knee socks. They're only flattering on children.

5. Jump on in a heartbeat: Longer dresses. They’re so elegant! Calf or ankle length, I like both. Would love to see more of that :D

Kidsyoyo Violin Coat Set Review

Last year, well, in 2009, I couldn't make up my mind about whether or not to order this set. I went back and forth and eventually missed the order deadline. This year I went back and forth again, but decided to go for it. The thing is, I fell in love with it and could totally see myself in it, but I wasn't sure I wanted to spend that much money on a coat that I wouldn't be wearing on a day-to-day basis; only with Lolita. But I decided to get it, because it'll be a coat I can have for many years, hopefully, and I really wanted a coat that wasn't black.

So I placed an order for this set at Quiteland on the 27/9-10 and paid for it on the 01/10-10. It was sent on the 02/12-10 and finally it was in my hands on the 20/12-10 after almost two weeks in customs.

Altogether with shipping, it added up to 3.285 HKD (2.350DKK) which is actually not that different from the prices in the shops around here for a similar quality coat. I have a black coat which also has embroidery and it was actually a bit more if I remember correctly. What I am trying to point out is that the price is fair.

Quiteland:

I've ordered from Quiteland several times before without any problems and this time was no different. Albeit I had actually decided to avoid using them again due to their inflated prices, this set was only available through them.

But all in all, it was a smooth transaction.

The coat:

I love it. I have absolutely no complaints. The whole set is so beautifully made. It fits exactly as it should, it's so elegant and I'm over the moon about it!

The only thing I will say is that it looks a bit, I don't know, flat and sad with non-Lolita clothes. I'll definitely only be wearing it over Lolita skirts and dresses, so the skirt part of the coat flares out.

The embroidery:

Gorgeous! Again well made and non fraying.

Sleeve detail:

Very elegant.

The pockets:

Very cute bow. They are actually real pockets, you just have to remove a thread to open them.

Collar:

The cape:

The faux fur is so soft and it is also detachable. The collar has small buttons on the inside, so you can wear the fur collar without the cape.

Adorable, no? It's nice and warm too, hehe.

Strap detail.

I hadn't realized it also had a pocket when I ordered it, so that came as a surprise. It seems small, but I was actually able to fit my phone, keys, creditcard and compact camera in there with a bit of room to spare.

It has so many nice little details.

The violin is detachable.

That was that. Obviously, no complaints. Everything is just so luxurious and I'm really looking forward to wearing it again. I've only had the opportunity once.

Today I went shopping with a friend. We went to our local mall and then to Strøget in Copenhagen. It was so nice and Christmassy downtown. We've been getting a lot of snow the past couple of days and it's been snowing all day today as well.

I actually wore my hair down when I was out, but put it when I got home. I don't usually wear my hair up like this - for Lolita or daily wear, but I kind of liked how it looks with this outfit.

I've actually found a red bolero that looks almost the same as this pink one. I would have worn that one today, but I'm planning on wearing that tomorrow when I'm going shopping for my mom's gifts when my dad.

Sorry for the inactivity lately - Between being busy with work and sick for a couple of weeks, I haven't had much time to be frilly. That hasn't stopped me from shopping frilly things, though, so since my last entry I've gotten two new dresses:

Red Riding Hood from Btssb in ivory:

I had only just decided for myself that after almost buying it several times on closetchild or on the sales community, but then deciding not to afterall, that the next I'd see this dress up for sale, I would go for it. Then it popped up again on the sales community and I went for it. The seller even threw in the matching bag (although a bit damaged) for free.

Sleeping Beauty from Aatp in black:

One of my dream dresses. I almost bought it on reserve, but then changed my mind at the last minute and I've regretted it ever since. I've wanted to buy it for a while, but it's almost always so overpriced on the sales community. Then I found it on mbok and used Japonica as my SS. Didn't think I would, but I actually won the auction. =D

Then yesterday I met up with Tenna and Stefanie. We went to Tivoli to see all the Christmas decorations. Everything was beautiful, there were just so many people there. So after a candyfloss, which I haven't had in years, and churros we decided to find a cafe outside of Tivoli to get some hot chocolate.

Then on a whim we decided to go to the cinema and watch Harry Potter 7 and drink hot chocolate in the cafe at the cinema. I've seen HP 7 three times now and it's still awesome. ♥

Little Red Ridinghood

Hi there!

Last Saturday Tenna and I went to Stofsalg (which is a fabric store) to look for some material for accessories. This shop has a lot of different types of fabrics and colours than the chain-fabric stores in Denmark, which is great, but they're also a bit more expensive. There were a lot of interesting stuff - such as pink and purple feston lace and cute tulle lace in different colours, but we didn't buy anything.

We went back to my place and hung out, watching Beauty and the Beast while eating cake and attempting to make accessories. We were kind of tired, so we didn't do much, haha.

In the spirit of Halloween, I decided to wear an outfit inspired by Little Red Ridinghood.

Yes, this beauty is on its way to me in the mail - woohoo! :D

Can't wait for it to arrive! I tried using a shopping service this time in order to avoid customs, I seriously hope it'll work, because I, man, customs are insane in Denmark there's the 160DKK fee and then 25 % of the item's value in tax! Even when sender's mark down the value and put it as a gift, I usually get those letter's from the customs people asking me for an invoice. I think I'd buy a lot more brand if the customs weren't so insane. Just saying :/

But I really like how this dress is simple, yet rich in detail, and I tried going with the long version this time. Should be interesting to see if it'll suit me :]

New layout: In reverie, Beauty & the Beast

I gave my blog a makeover today. I've been wanting to do a new layout for a while now, but everytime I've sat down determined to do something about it, I've had too many ideas and been unable to just pick one thing. But today I suddenly got this very specific idea and decided to go with that.

It's very different from and much darker than my previous layout, but truth be told, my old one was in kind of an unusual colourscheme for me - in terms of layouts anyway.

This one reminds me of the layouts I used to do when I was in upper secondary school 5-6 yeas ago, haha. I practically lived to make graphics back then when greatestjournal.com still existed. Since it crashed I think you can count the layouts I've done on one hand.

This one is far from perfect, but I like it - despite its egotripping, lol :3

Beauty and the Beast came out on DVD in Denmark last Tuesday FINALLY! I 've been waiting for it to come out for, well, years, I think! It's my favourite Disney movie.

I watched it on Thursday when I had the day off. It was awesome, both the movie and having the day off ;)

I also made this new all-black headbow.

(yeah, my hair is two toned and I kind of hate it)

It only took me about half the time than it took to make the ivory one which thrilled me a bit, haha.

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to decorate this one. I really want to make one with gold lace+decorations to match the outfit from my previous post, but I can't find any gold lace. I'm also going to make one with silver lace like Tenna did, because that looked awesome =]

Teapots & jewellery

Turns out my grandmother had the teapots for both sets - YAY :D I just loooove that first one ♥

After work today I went to pick up my Accessorize order from the postoffice. I ordered this cute little frame:
The colours are a bit more muted in real life.

Then I got the ring for the tea-themed set I bought last week.

And finally a birdcage necklace - I've been wanting one for so long and finally bought one, haha. Unfortunately, the bird had fallen of whenI received it, but I glued it back on.

Review: Zygomatics

A week ago I placed an order with Zygomatics for some handmade jewellery. They have a bunch of lovely pieces for Classic and Sweet lolita. I fell in love with a set of teapot (big surprise, no?) earrings and bracelet and a necklace with a large key. My order was shipped the following day and a couple of days later it arrived.

I have nothing but positive things to say about Zygomatics; They're sweet and polite, communication was excellent and shipping fast.
Their products are just so cute imo, I have my eyes set on a couple of more pieces and will definitely be buying from them again in the future! 5/5!

Last Sunday Girl ever after and I went to a flea market in KB Hallen. There were lots of cute things like teapots, old lamps and jewellery. We found this complete golden teaset that when the seller told us the price, we both just stared blankly at her because it was so cheap! 50DKK! We told her we'd think about it and then come back. The reason I wanted to think about it was that it was very flashy - a bit too over the top, but in the end, I bought, because it was awesome and a freaking STEAL!! =D

I just want to show this teaset that my parents brought with them home from Poland a few weeks ago.

Anyway, after the flea market, Tenna and I went to Baresso and had something warm to drink and a piece of their cheesecake OMNOMNOMNOM!!
Then when I came home, my mom had just gotten back from my grandmother's and she'd brought some of my grandmother's old china with her for me :D
I really love this first set - the colours are my favourite. Apparently, it's from way back in 1911 :O Which is probably why there's no teapot - I'll have to keep an open eye for that next time I go to a fleamarket ;)

This next set, the colours aren't 100 % my thing, but it's pretty nonetheless and I like the history behind it. I think it was my dad's brother, who used to be a sailor and he brought this back from China ♥

A weekend well spent :]

This weekend has been the best I've had in a really long time, and after working eight long days in a row, it was welcomed with open arms. I spent it with Tenna of Girl ever after and it was filled with loli goodness. Tenna and I have been working together for about 4? 5? months and it is so wonderful to finally have someone to talk to about Lolita. :3

Yesterday we met up to go buy supplies for making hair accessories. Unfortunately, the shop we really wanted to go to was closed, but we went to a couple of other craft stores and found what we needed.

We also went to a café named La Glace and it was the most wonderful place. It had such a lovely old fashioned interior and is also the oldest cafés/confectioneries in Copenhagen. This is how one of their display windows looked:

Macarons! I'd never tried those before, but we bought a few (they were ridiculously expensive) and they were quite good.

I had one with lemon and one with blueberries. OMNOMNOM :D

Then we went back to my place and started crafting. Tenna taught me how to make a headbow - YAY :D It was a lot of work - blood, sweat and tears! A bit too literally, about the blood anyway, haha, stupid needles ;)

Though, I'm really happy with the result and I really want to make more.

The charms are a small heart lock and heart key.

Then we had pizza and watched Penelope while ordering from Bodyline. It was an awesome day =D

Last year I didn't get a chance to order this set before the deadline. Now I have my second chance, but I'm not sure. I could use a new winter coat, especially one that would go with Lolita. I have a black one now that I love, but as I've probably stated in an earlier entry, I'm trying to weed out all the black from my wardrobe.

My concern is that it's a little too "LOOK AT ME!" for every day use e.g. to and from work. But damnit, it's just so cute, I can totally see myself in it, haha :D

I think the coat and those boots would look great together :3

The deadline for preordering the set is the end of the month, so I'll think about it until tomorrow evening... DUN DUN DUUUUN!! ;)

New BL order

Last week I ordered some stuff from Body Line and it arrived last Friday.

I have been eyeing this pair for the longest time and finally decided to get them. They fit - yes, for once BL shoes actually fit me, so that's good ;)

Then I got these which are a little different from the type of shoes I've worn with Lolita so far, but I like that they have a higher heel; it's much more flattering for my, shall we say, curvy legs ;)

And finally I got this blouse which I'm kind of thrilled about :D I was a little worried about the fit and the materials having never ordered blouses from BL before. I was pleasantly surprised with both, so that's awesome. I've really been in a need of a white blouse for my Lolita wardrobe ^^

Actually managed to get an outfit shot today. I went to my parents' summer cottage for a bit of relaxtion and fresh air. The sun was blazing so it wasn't exactly ideal photo conditions (which also explains my *serious* facial expressions). ;P

Holy shipping in a box Batman!

Wow, Body Line actually used a box for the DHL flat rate shipping.

Two pairs of shoes at the bottom and the bag on top.

Although, BL stuff is good for the low price, I have to say that I am getting a bit tired of their inconsistent sizing when it comes to the shoes.
I have three pairs of shoes in the same size. One pair is way too big - even with an insole. The other two pairs, the ones pictured above, are slightly different too. The black pair is just a bit smaller than the white. They're also just small enough for it to be a bit painful after several hours of wear :/

Rococo? Yes, please!

I watched Kamikaze Girls for the first time a few weeks ago. I don’t know what I expected, but I was pleasantly surprised. Momoko’s infatuation with the Rococo era was a wonderful reminder of the origins of Lolita, something that I find is often drowned out a bit by the present busy prints and generally OTT sweet dresses. It also reminded me of my own love for al l things Victorian and Rococo – and basically the reason why I got into Lolita in the first place.

I find I often get sidetracked by looking at really Sweet dresses and I sit and ‘Uh’ and ‘Ah’ at these colourful prints, but in reality I don’t think they would fit me. The same goes for Gothic dresses, I love them and their lovely elegance, but I’m just bored out of my mind by having had so much black in my wardrobe for so many years. I need a change now. So I’ve started to organize my style and purchases.
Classic Lolita was my first love and I need to complete it more. I also want to soften my look more. Like I said, I’m tired of coordinating so many outfits with black, so I’m focusing on getting some brown and off-white items. I want my closet full of romantic dresses in lovely soft colours.

The black in my hair has also got to go, but that’s a bit slower process. It’s only been growing out for a year and a few months. I’ve been dying the roots with semi-permanent dye, but I’m letting it wash all out now and then I’ll try to dye it a dark brown instead until I get back to my old dark blonde self. And then, maybe I'll want to go lighter :3

On another note, I decided to give repairing the lace on the Blooming Snow White JSK a go. I didn’t think I would be able to do it, until I saw someone else who’d repaired a similar lace on their dress. It actually looks okay now. I put the ribbon back on, but I won’t use tighten it – it’s only going to be there for decorative purposes. It’s actually only upon close inspection that you can see some of it is a little stretched. I repaired it all the places where it had been ripped completely.

At the same time as when I was thinking of buying Blooming snow White, I also had the opportunity to buy Meta’s Pintuck JSK in lavender. I’ve always loved the simple design and versatility of the dress, but at that time Blooming Snow White won. Then around the middle of March the dress popped up again on the sales community and I immediately snapped it up. It arrived almost two weeks ago and I absolutely love it. The colour is so gorgeous.

I can't wait to wear it. I'm planning on wearing this dress and the Blooming Snow White for the Copenhagen Sakura Festival on April 17th-18th.

I tried to really pace myself and be patient for the Spring lines of the taobao brands. I’m happy I did, because I knew it would be worth the wait.
I love this Classic dress from Infanta. It was just the sort of thing I was hoping for:

And while I'm waiting for more Spring/Summer dresses, I'm trying to decide on one of these two beauties from Innocent World:

I'm leaning towards the Forest Harvest Festival, because of the many options for colour coordinations, but nothing is set in stone yet.

Review: Qutieland, Rose Melody, Infanta & DollscroPs

I received a package from Quiteland earlier this week and decided to do a review for those interested.

The package contain three orders:

As you can see, I’ve waited a long time for some of these items and not all have been worth the wait.

Let’s start with Quiteland:
This is my fourth time dealing with Quiteland and it almost feels redundant to praise to them, as they were as always excellent with communication and generally pleasant and polite to do business with.
They notified me at some point about the blouse that the manufacturer had run out of the original lace. They sent me a photo of another type of lace and asked me to ok it. I did. Then a few days later they emailed me and said that the manufacturer had found some of the original lace and would be using that.
I wanted to combine the shipping on the first two orders which explains why it took so long to get my first order. The Infanta skirt was really the item that took the longest to make. I inquired about the status of my order in the middle of January and they replied that the embroidery was taking longer than expected. A few days later an email was sent out to all who’d ordered it.
My orders were shipped on the January 31st and I also received a shipping refund for the DollscroPs skirt. I finally received my things on the 17th after it being held in customs for twelve days.

Summing up: Excellent service on Qutieland’s behalf.

Rose Melody JSK

The construction of this dress is very nice and overall I’m happy with it. It’s fully lined and all the seams are perfect. The only thing that’s bothering me is the bodice of the dress. The white fabric is detachable which is a plus as it looks a little ridiculous, because it sits so high up on me. I would have liked the bodice to be a couple of inches longer, so it would have taken me in at my natural waist. But then again that’s how I feel about a lot of Lolita dresses, but even more so in this case, because it doesn’t really sit as an under bust design on me. It cuts me off half way up on my boobs, which looks a little unflattering to say the least. However, this probably may be solved with the right blouse underneath.
Altogether, I’d say, while the dress is exceedingly cute, I do think it will look best on someone within the standard size. With my 97cm bust and 80cm waist, I’m not in the standard size range that Rose Melody uses. But it looks nice with a white blouse underneath it.

Rose Melody blouse

This blouse was the most disappointing item that I ordered. I guess the fitting is all right, besides the sleeves. They could have been a bit longer, because once I start moving my arms a little bit they ride up. Just for the record I provided measurements for my shoulder, wrist, upper arm as well as arm length (and of course waist and bust).
Two things bother me greatly about this blouse:
1. The lace. I can’t really complain much about this, because I was sent a picture of it during the process, however, I’ll mention it anyway. The pattern on the lace is made with blue thread. I didn’t really think about this when I saw the picture of the lace, I thought it was just the light, but it looks blue in real life too.
2. The fabric. I was expecting a soft cotton and while it is made from cotton, it’s the kind of cotton ITS used for some of their skirts and F+F sometimes uses. This type of fabric is fine for skirts, but for blouses, not so much. It’s much too stiff a fabric to look flattering on you and it makes me look at least 10 kilos heavier. Maybe it’ll look acceptable under a JSK, but I’d really hoped to wear it with skirts too.
Besides those issues, the blouse is well made and has many cute details.

3/10 (If It wasn’t for the fabric it would probably have gotten an 8.)

DollscroPs skirt

(Seems a little rushed at the waistband.)

This skirt is so cute. I love the colour and the appliqué. It’s fairly well sewn and check out the lining.

That was a surprise. While the colour doesn’t really fit with the skirt, I do think it’s a really cute fabric for lining. It has detachable waist bands and bow.

Infanta skirt

This one’s a real gem. The embroidery is exquisite and so is the make; very well done. I absolutely love the lining. It has nice soft tulle lace at the hem and the string of pearls is detachable. It also comes with a large bow, where it’s supposed to go, I don’t know, but it’s cute nevertheless.
It was rather mystifying when I unwrapped the skirt and I found a piece of the lining sewn on to the front of the skirt.

I don’t know what is written on it, but it’s a little sloppy to send out such a thing in my opinion. I managed to remove it, but it left its traces in the velvet – an indented line. It’s only noticeable upon close inspection, though.
One thing to consider is how the design of the skirt is doesn’t go up as high in the back as in the front. This means that you can’t really tighten the skirt from your natural waist and up to your under bust. It’s not a big deal and the skirt looks fine when worn, I guess, I just like to be able to super fit the skirts ;)

Dots Before My Eyes

I started and finished the skirt I talked about a couple of posts back. Even though, it's not the most complicated design ever, I feel a little proud to say that I actually did it in just one afternoon. Well, I guess it's quite possibly the most simple design for a Lolita skirt, but for someone like me who stares blankly into the air when someone says two words related to sewing, it's quite an accomplishment to finish something like that.
Halfway my mom asked me if I didn't think that "sewing was so much fun?". Not so much. There are moments when I feel like I may spontaneously combust.

I made it a bit shorter than the tartan skirt. I like this whole making my Lolita clothes. Just for casual wear anyway. It's nice to get a new skirt for just under 20$. Next I'll try to do something a little more complicated, maybe some ruffles and at some point try to do a half-elastic waist with a zipper. I've also talked to my mom about making a whole dress. I just need to find a pattern for a dress with a bodice I like.

Anyhoo, here's a picture of the skirt in action. I wore it yesterday. I was just hanging around the house, playing the piano for a while. At the moment I'm trying to learn Emilie Autumn's Shalott. It's acutally an easy song, but at the same time a bit fast paced, so it's taking longer than I'd like ;)

Yes, that's my piano. I bought it a couple of years ago and love it to bits. It could use a tuning, though :/

Time To Spice Up The Batcave

It’s hardly a secret that Lolitas like to be in surroundings that are as beautiful and luxurious as the dresses they wear, and dream of having that perfectly decorated room. A lot of girls let their sense of fashion influence how they decorate their homes: Some like the Sweet princess style; some the Classic romance and others prefer the Gothic elegance.
Regardless of your personal style, there seems to be a rising trend in blogging about interior designs and I’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon. I’ve always loved decorating my room and have it be a little piece of my inner world realized. This post is going to be a list of ideas to what you can do to prettify that palace of yours without you having to refurnish and paint the whole place.
My own style is somewhat of a mix of fairies meet romantic princess meets… something Victorian. So here is a list of things I have done or would like to do with my room.

Fairy lights: Decorate your mirror, your bed, your closet, your something with them. They’re so cute and usually fairly cheap. They come in many different colours and different shapes, so choose something that will go with the rest of your ideas.

Canopy: If possible, you can hang a canopy over your bed. There are several different types of canopies. You could go with the mosquito net type – white and simple, or if you can find a store that has more colours. I used to have one in dark purple with velvet trims. Now I have the simple white one. I’ll share a picture of it.

Yes, I have stuffed animals on my bed like a five year old. Yes, I like Harry Potter. Yes, that’s a collage of crazy pictures with my friend and me.

Another way to do a cute canopy over your bed is like described in this link. It’ll require a lot more work than the first suggestion, but I do think it looks really cute and you have more options with the fabric. I really wanted to do this a few years ago when I was completely crazy with Harry Potter, but I never got around to it.

Pillows: Lots of them! Pillows in different shapes and sizes, colours and fabrics are such a nice way to add a little extra something to your room. Put some on your bed and/or on your chair. You can make them yourself even if you aren’t the great sewing wizard. Or you can keep your eye open for some next time you go shopping. H&M have some really cute ones up on their online shop at the moment. I really like this one:

If you’re making some pillow covers yourself and you’re from Denmark, then Stof & Stil has lots of really nice new spring fabrics at the moment; plenty of those vintage looking fabrics with big flowers. Love them.

Silhouette: Follow the tutorial Lolita Charm has up here and make a cute silhouette picture of yourself to decorate your walls with. I tried doing this last weekend, but I did it a little differently, because I didn’t have any black paper, so I just did that part in Photoshop and printed it out. Then instead of decorating the silhouette, I spent some time on the frame for it.

I just painted some scrapbook paper with acrylic paint and bedazzled it with some jewels I had lying around from a past unfinished project, then I glued it to the silhouette and bippity boppity boo! All done. :3

If you like fairies (who doesn’t?) and want to add a bit of their beautiful world to your room, why not put a pair of beautiful wings on your wall? Once again something you may be able to find in the stores and online, but if you want to it a bit more personal, why not make them yourself? With the proper materials it is actually very easy.
The lovely Emilie Autumn did a tutorial on how to make a pair of fairy wings here.
This is something I’ve wanted to do myself for so long and I have all of the materials for it except for one thing. I have not been able to find a wire that is strong enough anywhere! Once I do, you can be sure a pair of spiffy wings is going up on one of my walls.

Masks: If you’re as fascinated with masquerades as I am, then you’ll probably be into putting a fancy mask up on your wall or on display elsewhere. Once again something you can make yourself if you’re the crafty type of gal, or find in the stores around New Year’s and Halloween (and Fastelavn in DK). Or you can find some pretty ones online. I recommend Carta Alta that is the manufacturer of a lot of the masks you can find in other stores. However, it is much cheaper buying them directly from Carta Alta. I bought this beauty (plus one in purple for a friend):

Frames & collages:
Keep an eye open for cute frames for your walls or buy some plain ones and decorate them. Then display pictures of your loved ones in them or perhaps some quaint vintage photos or postcards. You could also make a spiffy collage with pictures of you and your friends/loved ones or maybe some fashion related? Perhaps a collection of all your favourite Lolita images?
Also try to stop by DeviantART and look at some of the prints offered by your favourite artists there.

Storage: Find a bunch of cute boxes to store your clutter in: Perhaps some cute hat boxes for all your hair accessories. How about a box for your gloves? What about displaying some of your favourite jewelry on a tiny mannequin? Show off your beautiful rings on one these shoe ring holders.

Garlands: Put up some garlands of artificial flowers and ivy to decorate your mirror. You can also use them on your bed if it has a frame or headboard that would accommodate that. I put up two garlands around my mirror recently.

These types of garlands are a little difficult to come by where I live and also a bit expensive. So I decided to hunt for some online and I ended up buying them from this store: GT Decorations. I liked their selection and they were one of the cheapest I looked at.

I love the frosted effect on the purple flowers. My mom walked in and said it looked like something out of a fairy tale and that she felt like she should be going “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?”. Mission accomplished then ;)

Homemade skirt & stuff

Today is the last day of my vacation. I go back to work tomorrow. Unfortunately, my friend was ill most of the time while visiting, so I didn’t get a chance to see her that much nor did we get to do a lot of photo shoots. So that was a bummer. She did bring me this sweet gift, though. A haul of jewellery from claire's.

On the plus side, I had time to finish sewing my Lolita skirt. I started this project several weeks ago, but didn't have time to finish it. It’s the first thing I’ve sewn in my entire adult life and also the first wearable thing I’ve sewn. Ever. It’s far from perfect, but totally fine for those semi-casual outfits. I used this tartan fabric for it:

It’s a very basic skirt with a full elastic waist band and the type of lace that is called ‘feston’ in Danish.

I really like this coord and I wore it today when I went shopping. I found this purple pumps on sale:

I think I only have one item to coordinate these with, but I just had to have them.
I also bought some fabric for the next skirt I intend to sew soon. Some black fabric with small white dots:

The tartan skirt has a circumference of four meters, which I found out is just a bit too excessive. So this time I’m going to make it just three meters.

I wore it the other when my friend had cancelled, because I had already curled my hair for a photo shoot, so I couldn’t resist dressing up in this dress. I felt so decadent, because I only went to the mall and back home and watched Disney’s Aladdin. Haha, I love Genie.

Orders & outfit

So today my good friend through many years is coming over and I’m really excited as I haven’t seen her since July when I visited her in Wales. She’s in town again for the next week and I’ve taken some time off work, so I can hang out with her. Today we’re going to catch up and plan the following week. Then we’re going to go do a photoshoot. I’m not sure yet what we’re going to be doing for the shoot, but we’ve talked about several themes and some of the shoots we’re going to do in the next week are going to be Lolita related. Yay. Maybe I should mention this: She’s studying Photography at university in Cardiff.

My outfit today is a bit casual, because I know I’ll be changing into something else for the shoot, but still I wanted to dress up a little, since I’ve been wearing nightwear and been bedridden for the past week due to the flu. Also, I wanted to show off this skirt that came in the mail earlier this week. I love this print in this colour, so I was really happy when I got a chance to buy it on the sales community.

The t-shirt with Emilie Autumn is the casual part, haha. I got it in the mail (yes, I received so many things in the mail this week) a few days ago. It was a Christmas present from my parents that took a really long time to get here, because it was apparently being ’stalled’ in Germany for some reason or whatever. It was part of a gift set with EA’s new autobiography, her Opheliac album and a tote bag. We’ve been waiting for so long for this to arrive. The book so far is very fascinating. My friend and I are going to her concert on Wednesday. It's going to be awesome. :D

Like I said a lot of things came in the mail this week. I also received my Blooming Snow White JSK and my Innocent World dress. Both are beautiful. Unfortunately I will also need to alter both of them.

For some reason, the shirring on the dress from Innocent World is completely weird. It seems that some of the strings in the panel are tighter than others which mean that instead of stretching to make room for my bust, the dress is pulled tighter over that area, resulting in major squeeze-age. It’s so off, because according to their measurements on their site, I’m within the range and when you stretch out the shirring there’s plenty of room. The dress just doesn’t do it by itself, except for over the waist, where the shirring works perfectly fine. My mom’s going to take out the elastic and replace it with one that’s looser. Hope it’ll work.

Now for the Blooming Snow White JSK: I was very unhappy to see when I received it that it wasn’t in as good condition as the seller had described. The lace on the back was torn in several places. Here’s a picture:
It’s a shame, really. I can’t repair or replace it, so I’m planning to clip off the loops in the lace and then just wear it with no ribbon to lace it up. Alternatively, I’d have to sew on some new loops for the ribbon and I’m not even going to go there with my poor sewing skills.
The seller and I are working things out, negotiating about a partial refund, so that’s good. And besides the damaged lace, the dress is so beautiful. I absolutely love it and can’t wait for the weather to get warmer around here, so I can wear it. At the moment we’re getting a lot of snow here, which is a little annoying when you want to strut your Loli Stuff.

Welcome to the circus!

I love seeing new interesting takes on Lolita, or maybe I should say, takes on Lolita that are less common than the most popular styles. It’s a breath of fresh air when someone pulls off an ass-kicking Steampunk outfit or a really chilling Guro ensemble. One style or theme, if you will, that pops up once in a while and which I think is really intriguing is Circus Lolita. I think I can count the times I’ve seen it done on one hand, however, it’s a theme that seems to occur more or less frequently in art. There must be something fascinating about the circus to Lolitas. Several brands have even put out circus prints. I think it’s because, similar to the Lolita style, the circus is a little piece of magic come to life. Inside that arena the audience knows anything can happen. Artists fly through the air, breathe fire and juggle strange things. Maybe there’s a magic show, perhaps the tightrope artist, definitely clowns doing silly things. It’s all about being different and having a good time – something I’m sure many Lolitas can relate to.

Let’s have a look at some of the prints that brands have put out featuring circus themes.

Besides the business of the first two prints, there aren’t really much of a common style to them in my opinion, which I suppose makes sense, as Circus Lolita isn’t really an official sub-genre or style of Lolita.

I’d say that there are two ways to pull off this circus look. Either one can wear a dress or a skirt with circus related prints like the above or one can put together an ensemble reminiscent of a character typically found in the circus; Something fun and playful, maybe with a bit of authority like the ringmaster. I’ve put together some outfits on polyvore that you’ll perhaps find interesting.

FIRST OUTFIT:

A black & white striped look. I don’t know, there is just something very circus-y about stripes to me for some reason. I really love those eyelashes and I’ve had the thought of using them in a Circus coord for quite some time. I’ve thrown in a little whip in this outfit. Maybe that’s a bit weird and can feel a little costume-y, but it’ll probably be all right for maybe a meet up or a specific event. Just try not to whip too many people – they get a bit uncomfortable. ; )

SECOND OUT FIT:

This one is a fairly basic red & black outfit. I think the waist cincher, the strappy boots and the eccentric top hat makes it circus-y, and then with some cute accessories you’ve spiced up a classic dress; made it unique and playful, while still retaining a sense of elegance.

THIRD OUTFIT:

Ciscus Lolita #3 by savage_lilly featuring Juicy Couture accessories

Another red & black outfit, but this time I chose to use a few brand pieces, just to show how it could look using a circus print in a themed coordinate. I’d actually love to wear this. The cool thing about this skirt is that there are so many colours in the print, so you could use other that just black and red to coordinate it. You could try to accentuate the light blue or the pink for a completely different look.

The trick to not making the whole thing look or feel like a costume is, as with Lolita in general, to make sure it looks elegant and you feel comfortable wearing it. Granted, a Circus outfit may not be what a Lolita will wear to the grocery store, but rather something more suitable for special events like, for example, meet ups or maybe a birthday party.

This isn’t really meant as a ‘how to wear’ post on Circus Lolita, it’s merely intended to be perhaps a source of inspiration and encouragement to explore this theme further, maybe it could catch on the way Pirate Lolita did. :3

Just a quick update on some orders..

Just to update on the Blooming Snow White situation: After sending a second email to Baby, to inquire about my order, I received an email from them where they said that the JSK was sold out. *GASP!!*
I felt my Lolita-heart break and I was filled with mix of sadness and great annoyance directed towards Baby. This was the second time I had tried to order something only to find out that it was sold out. They should really do a better job with updating their website.
However, all hope was not lost. I put up a WTB post on egl_comm_sales and someone was kind enough to sell me their dress there. So I am very happy about still getting this dress.

Innocent World started their online winter sale last week. Did anyone go on a crazy shopping spree there? I just got the Christina JSK in plum.

I hadn’t actually planned to buy anything from their sale, but then I saw this dress and I remember eyeing the green version several times, because I really like the bust line. I have a weakness for under bust dresses and even though this isn’t one, the resemblance is enough. I think it is so pretty when you can see a bit more of the blouse underneath than with the typical Lolita JSK.

I only had two concerns with this dress. The fabric is lightweight cotton. I’m not quite sure what that’s going to be like, but I guess, it’ll be nice for spring and summer. Second concern was the fact that it’s a three-tier skirt. I usually don’t care much for that kind of design, especially when the tiers are accentuated by lace as they are in this case.
Those were my concerns, but I love the colour and the over-all classical feel of the dress, and once I started imagining it in different coords, I kind of fell in love with it.

I don’t know if you’ve been following Qutieland’s livejournal, but one of the Chinese brands they carry there, DollscroPs, have made this Little Deer series “inspired” by AP’s Milky Chan. It’s adorable and I really love how the appliqué looks on an all pink skirt. I contemplated getting it, but I was a little skeptical of the suede fabric. Thankfully, I paced myself and Qutieland recently updated with new colour and fabric choices. I ordered a skirt in light purple corduroy with white polka dots. I love purple with Lolita. I’m really looking forward to receiving this skirt. I have a feeling it’ll be one of those ‘feel good’ skirts that I’ll wear when I need to cheer myself up.

Anyway, I went and ordered the grey music JSK from Bodyline along with a matching bag and the pink shoes. It all arrived the other day and I’m happy to report that everything fits (well, the shoes are a bit big, but that’s what insoles are for) and is of perfectly decent quality.

To the symphony & first brand dress

I went to the concert hall in Tivoli last night to watch Igudesman & Joo perform with the symphony orchestra. It was my first time to the symphony in many, many years. The last time I went there was when I went to primary school and at that time I didn’t have the same love for classical music as I have today. It was absolutely wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if the volume had been just a bit louder, because the thing I love most about live music is when it is so loud you can just close your eyes and cease to exist; you just get swept up into the music and nothing else exists for the duration of the concert.

Anyway, Igudesman and Joo are so much fun and I was surprised when they said they would be doing a signing session after the concert. Suddenly, I was all nervous and flushed. I wasn’t prepared for meeting them – But I did and I even bought an extra copy of their DVD (I already own it) just so I could get them to sign it.

I also took a picture of them, but I won’t post it here. It’s just a silly mobile picture.

I wore one of my favourite skirts to the concert: My high-waisted, velveteen Autumn Whisper skirt from Dear Celine. I didn’t have time to take an outfit shot as I was in a bit of a hurry getting ready, because I had just gotten home from work, so I’ll just post the stock photo:

Even though, I hadn’t gone all out with a crazy hairdo and make up, I was still ridiculously overdressed. In my head, I had expected people to dress up a bit for the symphony, but some people just showed up in their sweats. I guess that proves how naïve I really am, but still, wearing Lolita: you’ll be overdressed in most situations. That’s the thing about Lolita: You may as well get used to it.

Moving on to something different, I have ordered my first brand dress. I sent the order last night and am now waiting for the confirmation. It’s Baby’s Blooming Snow White JSK in pink.

I have debated this purchase back and forth for the past week or two. The thing is: I don’t usually wear Sweet Lolita, but the past couple of months I have been feeling an increasing urge to dress in lavender and pink from head to toe. And this dress is fantabulous! I remember pining for the underbust version when it first came out, however, it is too small for me and furthermore, at the time I wouldn’t even consider spending that much money on one dress.

But then, I looked this dress again a few weeks ago and I got this image in my head of myself wearing it. It was summer and I was running through meadows and walking around a lake near my parents’ summer cottage. I had pink ribbons in my hair and pink teaparties on my feet. I fell in love with it. At first I thought I wanted the ivory colour way, because it has a more Classical feel to it, but no, it is the pink one I need. I have never had a dream dress before, but this must be what it feels like.

Still there was a voice in my head pulling out numbers for me and telling me how frivolous and silly it was to spend that much money on just a single dress, saying ‘How I don’t even wear Sweet Lolita!’.
But I like pink and think Sweet Lolita is really pretty. In a way, I love how it is so rebellious in its own sweet, ruffly, OTT pink way. It’s like a gigantic F*ck you to the world, saying ‘I’ll wear whatever the hell I want!’, even more so than punk (not necessarily Punk Lolita, just punk in general). I love it and I can’t wait to wear the dress.

The thing I love most about this dress is the print, obviously. I am a sucker for anything remotely relating to Snow White. Why do you think my hair is dyed black? ;) Just kidding, well, partly anyway.
Yay, I just can’t wait to get the dress, although, I’ll probably get hit with a gigantic customs fee, but hopefully the dress will be worth it.

I’ve actually gone crazy with Sweet Lolita. I'm considering getting Bodyline’s music JSK and I was originally going to buy it in black, but I think it looks absolutely adorable in pink too! But I don’t want to go too overboard with the sweet colours just yet. It’s a shame, I have no idea how the dress looks in grey/green. It’s kind of annoying Bodyline don’t have stock photos of each colour. Lame, actually.
But I think I’m definitely going to get these shoes in pink:

All right, so this is the obligatory introduction entry. My name is Sabrina, I’m from the small, but lovely Scandinavian country, Denmark, and this is my Lolita blog. Here you can read about my life as a lifestyle Lolita. I will post anything from daily outfit shots to tutorials to DYI projects to just random Lolita ramblings about anything relating to Lolita.

Maybe just a few words about myself: I’m 22 and have been into Lolita for a little more than a year now. I am not a fulltime Lolita, because I can’t wear Lolita to work, I wear it, however, whenever and as often as I can. Lolita is my escape from the bland every day. Lolita is a little bit of fantasy come to life. Lolita is my Dreamland.

I am still dabbling around in several styles, not having settled on a favourite just yet. I mostly wear Classic, but am also strongly drawn to Gothic and lately also Sweet.
Besides Lolita, I’m also very interested in books, photography and music, and I expect most, if not all, of these hobbies to worm their way into this blog.
